Geraldo de Barros Brazilian, 1923-1998

At 26 years old, he participated in the creation of the laboratory and the course in photography at the Museu de Arte de São Paulo (MASP), where he presented the solo show Fotoformas, in 1950. In 1951 he attended the HfG - Hoschule für Gestaltung (School of Forms) in Ulm, Germany. He was also one of the founders of the Grupo Ruptura (1952) and Rex (1966), and participated in the 1st, 2nd, 9th, 15th and 21st Bienal de São Paulo, and in the Venice Biennale (Italy), in 1986. Among several shows in important national and international galleries and cultural institutions, his work was part of the group exhibition Estratégias para Luzes Acidentais at Luciana Brito Galeria in 2011. In 2014 the Instituto Moreira Salles, Rio de Janeiro, organized the retrospective Geraldo de Barros e a Fotografia. At the following year the same exhibition was exhibit at SESC Belenzinho in São Paulo. His work takes part of collections such as Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation, Fonds d'Art Contemporain de l'Etat de Genève, Fundação Bienal de São Paulo, Instituto Inhotim, Ludwig Museum, Max Bill Foundation, Museu de Arte Contemporânea de São Paulo, Museu de Arte de São Paulo, Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo, Museum of Fine Arts, MoMA New York.
