On the one hand, from a formalist point of view, his works are carefully constructed, having light as their main support. Light that arouses feelings, at the same time that it sparks enchantment in the spectator. Iván Navarro’s production is also imbued with political connotations, communicated to the public through countless strategies, as seen in the titles of his works, in his careful use of color, in the use of anagrams, or in the appropriation and deconstruction of symbols that represent ideologies and institutionalized power.Light is a common thread winding through Ivan Navarro’s works, which generally question society, politics, and the history of art itself. Messages are conveyed to the viewer subliminally through titles, colors, and symbols. His luminous and colorful installations engage in a dialogue with minimalism, interacting with the viewers, activating their senses.Bomb and Silent investigate not only light but also the ambiguity between sound and language, challenging our sensory perception. Through a onomatopoeic play on the words “bomb” and “silent,” these luminous sculptures are positioned within percussion instruments that are, ironically, bereft of sound. They thus operate as visual representations of sound within instruments stripped of their natural function.
