Caio Reisewitz, Héctor Zamora, João Luiz Musa e Rochelle Costi present new photos at Luciana Brito Galeria
The works are part of a new series produced by the gallery, with an edition of 60 prints
As part of an initiative to promote collecting, Luciana Brito Galeria releases on August 22 new works by renowned artists Caio Reisewitz, Héctor Zamora, João Luiz Musa and Rochelle Costi. All of the photographs measure around 40 x 60 cm and were especially created for the project. Each of them will have an edition of 60 copies.
Caio Reisewitz (1967, São Paulo) presents the work Mamanguá XV. Measuring 59 x 47 cm, the image integrates the Guanabara series, which the artist has been developing since 2009. Renowned by his authorial language through which explores themes such as architecture and landscape, as well as the intricate relations between the environment and human voracity, Reisewitz has been experiencing a moment of great international acknowledgment: after presenting a solo show at the International Center for Photography (New York) last year, in 2015 he has solo exhibitions at the Maison Europeénne de la Photographie (Paris) and the Huis Marseille Museum voor Fotografie, Amsterdam’s first museum of photography.
Great part of Héctor Zamora’s production takes place outside traditional exhibition spaces, through interventions and installation in public areas. The artist (Mexico City, 1974) presents in 2015 solo shows at the Palays de Tokyo (Paris) and the FRAC Pays de la Loire (Carquefou), and also participated in the 12th Biennale de La Habana. At Luciana Brito Galeria, he shows Orden y Progreso, 40 x 60 cm, a record photo of an homonymous performance presented in Lima (Peru) in 2012, when the artist placed a fishing boat at the Paseo de los Héroes Navales. With the assistance of local works, the vessel was completely dismantled in a few days, nothing remaining of it but a pile of debris.
Other than being one of the most influent photographers of his generation, João Luiz Musa (1951, São Paulo) has also been teaching photography for decades at the University of São Paulo. He presents at the gallery two untitled works with 35 x 53 cm each. Despite their thematic differences – one is a litoranean landscape and the other is an airport scene –, they both contain key-aspects of his production, such as his impecable thecnical and aesthetical plight and a generous and attentive eye that makes reference to the phtographer-traveler genre. His works integrate important collections, such as Itaú, Pirelli/Masp Photographic Collection and MAC USP, among others.
Rochelle Costi (1961, Caxias do Sul) started her career by photographing ordinary objects that she collected; this was the beginning of a research about private elements and spaces that resulted in the poetics that she develops until this day, one of direct interventions over images to displace the usual codes of representation. This aspect of estrangement is manifest in the work that she presents at Luciana Brito Galeria, Contabilidade [Accounting], 39 x 59 cm, a photograph of a lime tree with all of its 382 limes numbered. If many times Rochelle operates by creating organic interferences on top of the images, in this case it’s up to elements that are doubly abstract (digital numbers) to disrupt the simulacrum of the naturalistic record. Her works integrate several national and international collections, such as Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation e Inhotim.
