Sérgio Camargo was one of the most important Brazilian sculptors of the 20th century, widely recognized for his singular investigation of light, shadow, volume, and spatiality. His work, marked by exemplary formal rigor, establishes dialogues between constructive and modern traditions.

In 1963, he began the Relevos [Reliefs] series, working initially in wood through the systematic arrangement of cylinders cut in different sizes and angles, organized on a surface according to a visual logic that balances order and asymmetry. Exemplifying these compositions, the sculpture Sem título [Untitled] (1968) is composed of cylindrical and semi-cylindrical blocks that create perceptual interplay and luminous effects against a deep monochromatic white ground, reducing the object to its spatial essence.
