Paula Garcia
1975, São Paulo, Brazil. Lives and works between São Paulo, Brazil and New York, USA
For Paula Garcia, performance is about mental state, instinct and skin. Her interest in the body had already led the artist to study theater even before delving into the visual arts. Confronting situations and the limits of the body are themes that permeate Paula Garcia's research, which has performance as its main form of expression, in addition to considering it the ideal vector for working on sensations and senses. In her performances, time is often a catalyzing agent to create connections between the body and the world, building results that remain as residual installations.
With a degree in Fine Arts from FAAP (Fundação Armando Álvares Penteado), in São Paulo (Brazil) and a master's degree in Visual Arts from Faculdade Santa Marcelina, in São Paulo (Brazil), Paula Garcia also studied theater at the Michael Howard Studio, in New York (USA) and Teatro Escola Célia Helena, in São Paulo (Brazil). Some of his main participations took place at the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo (2021, São Paulo, Brazil), Galpão Vídeobrasil (2016, São Paulo, Brazil), Sesc Pompéia (2015, São Paulo, Brazil), Beyeler Foundation (2014, Basel , Switzerland), 7th Biennial El Museo del Barrio (2013, New York, USA), Watermill Center (2012, New York, USA), etc. In 2012, he participated in the International Summer Program at the Watermill Center (New York, USA).
