Rafael Carneiro’s research is essentially centered on painting, executed with outstanding technical mastery. In recent years, the artist has combined his creative painting practice with experimentation in new materials in the context of Joules & Joules, a brand of handcrafted paint developed in partnership with artist Bruno Dunley. In Piscina, Rafael Carneiro used aged linseed oil gel for the first time to prepare the canvas before applying traditional oil paint. This oil gel lends the work a yellowish, glossy aspect resembling that of a swimming pool.
