Augusto de Campos é um dos expoentes da Poesia Concreta no Brasil, além de ensaísta, tradutor e crítico literário e musical. Sua produção é permeada pela experimentação com a linguagem, através da ideia de unidade entre os recursos comunicacionais, como palavra, som e imagem. Em “Poema Bomba” (1982-1993), ele utiliza a repetição dos caracteres do título para esquematizar a estrutura verbal. Dessa forma, as letras dos substantivos “poema” e “bomba” se revezam para compor formas geométricas, linhas ou círculos, de acordo com a paridade de suas origens. Quando trocadas, a metáfora das palavras muda de sentido: poema bomba ou bomba poema.

Em 1952, lançou a revista literária Noigandres, com Haroldo de Campos e Décio Pignatari, introduzindo a poesia concreta no Brasil. Em 1956, participou Exposição de Arte Concreta no Brasil, no MAM-SP. Seus projetos mais emblemáticos são estudados até hoje, como “Viva Vaia” (1949/1979) e os poemas-objetos em parceria com Julio Plaza, “Poemóbiles” (1974) e “Caixa Preta” (1975). Em 1975, produziu “Pulsar”, poema que fez parte da série “Stelegramas” (1975-78), seu primeiro “poema constelação” e um dos melhores exemplos de construção poética. Como tradutor, trabalhou obras de James Joyce, Gertrude Stein, Vladimir Mayakovsky, Stéphane Mallarmé, Arthur Rimbaud e outros.

 

Augusto de Campos is one of the key figures of concrete poetry in Brazil, as well as an essayist, translator, and literary and musical critic. His production is pervaded by experimentation with language, through the idea of unity between the communication of resources, such as words, sound and image. In Poema Bomba (1982–1993), he uses the repetition of the letters in the title to schematize the verbal structure. The letters of the nouns poema [poem] and bomba [bomb] alternate to compose geometric shapes, lines or circles, according to the parity of their origins. When exchanged, the words express a different metaphor: poema bomba [bomb poem] or bomba poema [poem bomb].

In 1952, he released the literary magazine Noigandres, with Haroldo de Campos and Décio Pignatari, introducing concrete poetry in Brazil. In 1956, he participated in the event titled Exposição de Arte Concreta no Brasil, at MAM-SP. His most emblematic works are still studied today, and include Viva Vaia (1949/1979) along with the poems/objects he made in partnership with Julio Plaza – Poemóbiles (1974) and Caixa Preta (1975). In 1975, he produced “Pulsar” a poem that is part of the Stelegramas (1975–78), his first “poem constellation” and one of the best examples of poetic construction. As a translator, he has worked with works by James Joyce, Gertrude Stein, Vladimir Mayakovsky, Stéphane Mallarmé, Arthur Rimbaud, and others.
