Caio Reisewitz’s research is primarily focused on photography. His technically refined compositions reveal a particular interest in human action and its social and political effects, whether in natural spaces or architectural settings. His approach constructs a repertoire that can confront us with human disregard or the visual poetry of environments.
The work Papudahú was first presented in 2023 as part of the mundo do meio exhibition, where the artist occupied all the exhibition spaces of Luciana Brito Galeria, including an intervention with native plants in the Modernist Room. The piece consists of a combination of overlaid images of Brasília, two taken by the artist himself, and another historical one taken before the city’s construction. This composition portrays the Papuda region, best known for being the site of the Penitentiary Complex where politicians are held, and, currently, those who attacked Brazil’s democracy on January 8, 2023. Caio Reisewitz thus establishes a paradoxical relationship concerning the modernist utopia of a capital built in the center of Brazil, precisely to hinder access by potential enemies.
